En Italia

Matt has a good nose at the shiny mechanics of the boat. STAY AWAKE!

We arrived!  yay! We made it yesterday after a couple of days involving pretty much every mode of transport apart from a motorbike. Plane, train, boat and automobile were certainly covered! The flight was good (Singapore airlines are always good at that sort of thing) albeit long (to be expected if you live on the opposite side of the globe).

We arrived to a cloudy morning which brightened up in the afternoon. We followed the instructions I found on the Italy tourist site for getting to Bellagio from Milan.  We even managed to successfully find the train and buy the right tickets!  We got as far as Como without any problems at all really and then set off to find  a boat to take us around the lake to Bellagio.  That’s where things got interesting…

We ended up on a steamer… a proper, old steam boat which took 2 hours to complete a journey that the more modern hydrofoil can complete in 45 mins. Unfortunately for us the hydrofoil doesn’t run on a Saturday quite a frequently as that lovely tourist friendly boat.  I don’t think they knew what to make of the two passengers with a suitcase, back-pack and hand luggage though!  Everyone else had just brought a camera.  It just meant it took us 3.5 hours to get from the airport to our destination.  Well what’s a few more hours after 32?

Bellagio is very pretty and just as you’d expect. Mum and Dad are staying in the 5 stat mansion on the lake front which is lovely.  We’re up the hill in a small family run, and beautifully modern hotel called Hotel Fioroni. We get to use their 5 star swimming pool and other facilities for free! 🙂 tee hee.

We have friends who live here.  Just search the site for double espresso.. you’ll find them.  They’re on their way to join us at the hotel for a cuppa before dinner 🙂  Excellent.

To N8 girl I can say that there seems to be a massive difference in wedding time preparations if you let the posh hotel deal with it! No running around here.  Hours in a hairdresser this morning and that’s it.  We dont’ even need to take anything to the place where they’re getting married… it’s all been done!  Mind you, we’re dealing with 20 rather than 120 people here!

A Yes... we're in Europe

The weather is being typically stubborn.  We’ve managed to get soaked to the bone on two occasions now.  We’ve had to buy ourselves a white umbrella to keep us dry although the weather forecast for tomorrow is sunshine! (phew)

Coffee... Italy... Uh oh!

Coffee... Italy... Uh oh!

Pretty much everyone has managed to get here though.  We’re just waiting for aunty Di and her mate to arrive and I think we’ll have the complete set of wedding guests ready to go!  I can’t believe the wedding is tomorrow!  Little Mini will actually be married; that seems a bit grown up for your little sister doesn’t it!  I’m sure it’ll be a lovely day though 🙂 Hopefully I’ll get chance to post on here soon after and share some piccies and a run down of the day… It depends how inappropriate it is to use the hotel’s free wi-fi whilst at the reception dinner…..?

Excited much Mini?

Como!! I didn’t realise it was there. Fantastic, that’s where we were last summer, only further up at Pianello del Lario in a house. Sorry to tell you Sel but a bus goes right from the train station all the way up the lake, but the steamer is definitely more scenic!! Looking forward to Saturday!!

We're not around right now. But you can send us an email and we'll get back to you, asap.
