It’s not raining but we’re stuck indoors…

When we lived in England we used to remember how we could at least plan to go out as often as we liked because the weather was nearly always sunny and nice.

Hot Hot Hot!

Roll on Tuesday! - screen shot of realtime weather at 8:30 pm. The hottest it got today was 43!

When it rained here in Australia it usually stopped after a very short while so umbrellas were not really necessary.  Last time we lived here we spent 4 weeks travelling.  If you look back through the archives to 2006 you should see us travelling  around in the outback in 42 degree heat getting excited when we could find somewhere to purchase ice.  The water was running warm out of the cold tap and hats were incredibly important!  By the time we’d settled in Adelaide, South Australia seemed remarkably cooler!

Adelaide is often described as having a mediterranean climate.  It’s not supposed to get to the dizzy heats that you find in the outback ( or even the Northern Territories).  People in forums often choose to live in Queensland because they want to make sure they get all round heat.  When we tried Brisbane it was way too hot for me; that’s why we choose Adelaide.  Boy is the weather toying with us at the moment though!  It’s hotter here then in allother other states.  It’s been 42 degrees now for 2 days and is set to continue that way until Tuesday. As a result, instead of it being to wet to do anything, it’s too hot!

We were supposed to go to Schutzenfest yesterday but by the time we’d walked towards the river we knew that we need to stop, find the cafe and have a cold drink.  It would have been way too hot for us to be walking around an outdoor festival.  Today we were going to go to Warrawong Sanctuary (we visited there before with Ann and Jeremy – they cuddled a snake) but when we got there it was shut because it was so hot it was a fire risk to let anyone inside.  Bizzare!  Somehow, at the moment our only options are undercover ( and air-conditioned) malls and cinemas!  We’re trapped inside for different reasons! At least I got to see “It’s Complicated” at the cinema today – well worth a watch!

All at the same time that the UK seems to be only 2 degrees warmer than the South Pool.  Maybe this is global warming at its best? I’m looking forward to Tuesday when I can go for lovely long walks again!
